Book Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Okay I need to start this off with a confession: the first time I picked up Shatter Me, I didn't even make it past the first chapter. I was either in a reading slump or a weird headspace that didn’t have me ready for this book.
Fast forward about a year, and my best friend and I decide to do something fun, we both pick a book and annotate it, then swap. At the end we are given our original book back, annotated by the both of us. I chose Shatter Me because I wanted to give it another try. That and I kept hearing good reviews about it so I couldn’t give it up just yet.
And once I opened the book for the second time? I was absolutely hooked from the first sentence. Juliette’s voice, edging on insanity, kept me devouring page after page. Annotating it made the experience that much better, especially with thoughts of how she might react similarly to me.
The chapters are short, which made it even easier to read quickly. I probably finished the book in about a week, which is impressive to my abilities when annotating. This book has now claimed one of the top spots reserved for my favorite fantasy books and I am so excited to continue the series!
Would I recommend this book to everybody without fail? 100% absolutely.
That’s all for now,
